Republic Day celebrated in Tamil Nadu
January 26th, 2011 - 11:47 am ICT by IANSChennai, Jan 26 (IANS) The 62nd Republic Day was celebrated across Tamil Nadu Wednesday with patriotic fervour, with Governor Surjit Singh Barnala unfurling the national flag at the Marina beach here.Barnala also took the salute from the three wings of the armed forces and other security agencies.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, ministers and people appeared to enjoy the dance performances of school and college students dressed in colourful attires.
Karunanidhi presented the Anna gallantry award to four people — R. Vivekanandan, J. Ravi, S. Rajagopal and T. Rajesh Kumar — for heroic deeds.
He also presented awards to Tamil Nadu sportspersons who won medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games.
Across the state, district collectors unfurled the national flag and took salute from police contingents.
