SEOUL (BNO NEWS) — South Korean Prime Minister Chung Un-Chan is expected to offer his resignation to President Lee Myung-bak this weekend, according to a news report on Friday evening.

The Yonhap news agency reported that Chung is expected to meet with Lee on Sunday to offer his resignation over the failure to stop a politically controversial plan on relocating government ministries.

The agency, which usually has high-ranking and reliable government sources, did not identify the source.

Earlier this week, the country’s National Assembly voted down a bill that would have built a science and technology hub in central South Korea instead of the initially envisioned administrative town.

Chung assumed office as prime minister on September 29 of last year.
