New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS) The Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal government’s move to rename a building named after late prime minister Indira Gandhi may hurt public sentiment, the Congress said here Wednesday.
“Kazi Nazrul Islam is a respected figure, but changing the name of a building already named after a well known personality hurts public sentiments,” Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said.
The Trinamool Congress government is planning to rename former chief minister Jyoti Basu’s residence, known as Indira Bhawan, after noted Bengali poet Nazrul Islam.
“A lot of public sentiment is attached with Indira Gandhi, people feel hurt because of such incidents,” Alvi said.
Asked about Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee’s objections on the Lokpal bill, Alvi said: “Small objections can be talked out with TMC.”
