Reddy supporters protest his arrest
September 6th, 2011 - 10:22 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, Sep 6 (IANS) Stray incidents of violence marked the Bellary shutdown Tuesday called by supporters of jailed mining baron G Janardhana Reddy.
Protesters pelted stones at buses and shops, damaged two government offices and burnt tyres, Bellary Superintendent of Police Chandra Gupta told IANS over phone.
Gupta said police were studying CCTV footage of the incidents and some arrests might be made.
Reddy, former tourism minister and owner of Obulapuram Mining Co, was arrested Monday for illegal mining. He is now in Hyderabad’s Chanchalaguda jail.
