Rand Paul will be running for the SenateMay 15th, 2009 - 9:39 pm ICT by GD
Rand Paul, the son of 2008 Presidential candidate for the US Republican, Ron Paul is all set to take his father’s Revolution message all the way to Washington D.C.
In the Rachel Maddow Show that was aired on the night of 14th May, Rand Paul announced that as the first step in the run for a Republican nomination for a Senatorial seat from the state of Kentucky, he has already set up an exploratory committee. The purpose of the exploratory committee will be to measure the public support and other like elements that will be vital with regards to his potential campaign.
Apart from gauging the interest in the political campaign, the exploratory committee is certain to draw the press thereby enabling Rand Paul to officially start raising money for his campaign.
In the early part of the year when Paul was asked whether he would be running for a seat in the Senate, he had replied that he would run only if Senator Jim Bunning (whom he thinks as incumbent) did not run.
Then, on the prospect of forming the exploratory committee Paul had said, “I’m going to be doing the same thing that one other candidate has already done and that’s form an exploratory committee, still with the understanding that if Bunning runs, I’m not planning on running against him.” But this statement was made some months before and things and minds can change pretty fast, especially when it comes to politics.
Like his father, Paul Rand is also of the opinion that lately the Republican party has gotten off track and off message as well and that the party needs to concentrate on the revival of the traditional conservative beliefs like having a small government.
