Ramdev’s fast has lost meaning: Congress (Lead)
June 11th, 2011 - 7:31 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, June 11 (IANS) Congress leader P.L. Punia said here Saturday that yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s fast against corruption and black money has lost its significance and was “meaningless” now.
“What Ramdev is now doing has no significance. His fast has no meaning now as his demands have been accepted by the central government. Now he should call off his fast,” Punia, who is chairman of the Scheduled Castes Commission, told reporters.
Punia was in the Uttar Pradesh capital to participate in a function organised by the Congress human rights and legal cell here.
“He (Ramdev) is now unnecessarily continuing with his fast. The Haridwar district authorities and the Uttarakhand government along with others, including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, are making efforts so that Ramdev calls off his fast. Authorities are in constant touch with Ramdev as far as his health is concerned,” he added.
Ramdev has been on fast in Haridwar against corruption and black money after he was forced to move out from New Delhi after a police crackdown on his congregation at the Ramlila Ground.
On Ramdev’s deteriorating health, Punia told reporters here, “Everyone wants Ramdev should become healthy. He should now end his fast to improve his health.”
Punia attacked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for ignoring Dalits.
“Dalits are not secure in the state. Even as there is no one in the state government to listen to them, the chief minister claims everything is fine in the state,” he said.
