New Delhi/Haridwar, June 8 (IANS) Baba Ramdev’s associate Acharya Balkrishna Wednesday clarified that the yoga guru did not intend to create an armed force of youth but only wanted to train them in self-defence through martial arts to enable them join the fight against corruption.
Reacting to Congress references to the proposed youth force and the caution of Home Minister P. Chidambaram against any arms training following remarks by Ramdev of training the youth in “shaastra (Vedas) and astra (weapons)”, Balkrishna said that training to youth will be in self-defence.
“It is not any kind of force. What he (Ramdev) meant was training in self-defence so that the youth can work effectively against corruption and, if needed, protect the weak,” Balkrishna told IANS.
He said the youth could be imparted training in judo and other martial skills.
Ramdev talked about preparing a force of 11,000 men and women by training them in “shasstra (Vedas) and shastra (weapons)”.
Balkrishna also accused the government of making contradictory statements on those injured during a police swoop on the yoga guru and his supporters in New Delhi’s Ramlila Grounds past-midnight June 4.
“One minister says no one has been injured while the other talks of giving compensation,” he said.
“We will come out with financial details of Patanjali Yogapeeth and all our companies by tomorrow (Thursday). We will upload it on our website also,” Balkrishna told reporters later in Haridwar.
“It will have financial details of Patanjali and other businesses and companies associated with it. It will have all financial details,” he said.
Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh had questioned how Ramdev amassed so much of assets and demanded a probe into it.
