Ramadoss flays Kerala decision to build new damFebruary 27th, 2008 - 10:39 pm ICT by admin
Chennai, Feb 27 (IANS) PMK founder Ramadoss Wednesday termed the Kerala government decision to build a dam over Mullaperiyar river as “an act equivalent to functioning like an independent state.” “Instead of consulting the other riparian state of Tamil Nadu, the Kerala government has declared its harmful intentions. This act is equivalent to functioning like a ‘independent’ state beyond the borders of the union of India,” Ramadoss told reporters here.
Answering a question, the PMK leader said his party would fight the move “tooth and nail.”
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)- led Left Front government in Kerala Tuesday took the decision to build a new dam in place of the 113-year-old present dam. The Kerala government said the old dam presents a grave danger to the people living in the surrounding areas.
The PMK is part of the ruling United Progressive Alliance at New Delhi supported from outside by the Left Front.
