Pranab Mukherjee New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS) The Rajya Sabha was Monday adjourned till 2 p.m. as opposition demanded the presence of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and several other ministers during the reply to a debate on agrarian crisis.

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was to reply to the debate on agrarian crisis, which started Thursday.

Opposition parties, however, said the agricultural minister cannot alone take all decisions relating to agriculture and demanded the presence of finance, commerce, irrigation and panchayati raj ministers.

“Power minister, finance minister, commerce minister, panchayati raj minister, all must be there,” Bharatiya Janata Party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu said. “Pawar has no power…all should be there, it is a very serious issue,” he added.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury said: “The agriculture minister is crippled in taking many decisions. He is not the only one who will answer many of these questions.”

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla said that no such demand was presented by opposition when the debate started.

To this, Venkaiah Naidu said the reply can be scheduled at 2 p.m. as by then some of the ministers can be called. The chair adjourned the house first for 10 minutes and later till 2 p.m.
