Panaji, March 29 (IANS) A personal security officer of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray was arrested Tuesday for threatening and assaulting a truck driver who was driving ahead of the leader’s convoy.
Superintendent of Police for north Goa Arvind Gawas told reporters that Maharashtra Police sub-inspector Mohan Salunke was arrested by the Ponda police and was later released on bail.
“He had threatened the driver Devanand Satarkar with his gun and assaulted him,” Gawas said.
Theckeray was being escorted in a convoy from Ponda, 30 km from here, to Margao in south Goa when the incident occurred.
When the truck came in front of the convoy, the security officer drove ahead, parked his jeep and assaulted Satarkar, threatening him with his service pistol.
The local residents supporting the truck driver gathered at the site, triggering a traffic jam along the Ponda-Margao highway.
