Rail budget disappointing: Naveen Patnaik
February 25th, 2011 - 10:22 pm ICT by IANS
Bhubaneswar, Feb 25 (IANS) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday said the rail budget for 2011-2012 was disappointing for his state.”It was grossly inadequate considering the requirement of the on-going projects in Orissa and completely falls short of our legitimate demands,” Patnaik told reporters.
Reacting to the budget presented in parliament by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, Patnaik said the request made by the state government for new lines, new surveys and capacity expansion was not considered, “which is extremely disappointing,” he said.
The Orissa government had demanded the railways sanction Rs.2,085 crore for various projects in the state in 2011-2012, but the proposed allocation was only about Rs.1,168 crore, a senior state official told IANS.
