Rahul tours Amethi, meets schoolchildren

Rahul Gandhi Amethi, Aug 17 (IANS) Congress general secretary and MP from Amethi Rahul Gandhi Monday visited a nursery school, sat on the ground with children and and chatted with them for an hour.
Gandhi paid a surprise visit to the school in Pure Chahar Khalispur village. “He sat on the ground, took children in his laps and talked to them about an hour. He asked them about their studies and also tossed questions related to the nation,” Gopal, a villager, told reporters.

Gandhi, who was in Jagdishpur, the main town of his constituency, to inaugurate the stamping unit in the Jagdishpur plant of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) also interacted with women from a self help group.

“He (Gandhi) attended a meeting of a self help group of the women of the block in the Navodaya Vidyalaya for about an hour,” state congress spokesperson A.P.Singh told IANS.

Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to his constituency, made unannounced visits to the villages.

Earlier, while attending the inauguration ceremony at the BHEL plant, Gandhi alleged that the state government was creating hurdles in the central government’s developmental projects.

During his three-day stay in Amethi, Gandhi will inaugurate a school and attend the certificate distribution programme of a local branch of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad.
