Lucknow, Nov 13 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will arrive in his parliamentary constituency, Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, Monday on a three-day tour to evaluate central government-sponsored public welfare schemes, a party official said.
“During the three-day tour, he (Gandhi) would meet party activists, particularly the young party workers, undertake surprise visits in villages and interact with women self-help groups to know the progress of developmental projects in his constituency,” Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap told reporters here Saturday.
“The Congress general secretary would also chair the vigilance and steering committee and review the execution of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and Prime Minister’s Rural Roads Scheme,” he added.
According to sources in the Congress party, Gandhi may spend a night in the house of a Dalit on the last day of his tour.
In his earlier visits, Gandhi has stayed with Dalits and even shared food with them on a number of occasions.
