Rahul Gandhi’s suggestion ideal solution for Lokpal: MP

Panaji, Oct 4 (IANS) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s suggestion of a constitutional basis for the Lokpal and Lokayuktas is the best way forward, a member of parliament’s standing committee scrutinising the anti-graft legislation said here Tuesday.
“The concept put forth by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, during his speech in the Lok Sabha, in the last monsoon session, would be the ideal solution and, those who wish that these institutions should be strong, effective and independent, have to welcome Rahul Gandhi’s idea as it gives more than what they are asking for,” Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik said a written statement here.
Naik is a member of the Abhishek Manu Singhvi-headed panel on personnel, public grievances and law and justice.
During a zero hour speech Aug 26, Gandhi had said that he was in favour of a Lokpal as a constitutional authority on the lines of the Election Commission of India.
“Lokpal and Lokayuktas enacted in this manner will place these institutions on high pedestal, which should be welcomed by all those who genuinely want these institutions to be free from any influence, whatsoever,” Naik said.
