Rahul Gandhi to attend party meet in Lucknow

Lucknow, July 11 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Lucknow Tuesday to attend a meeting of the party’s Uttar Pradesh election committee, a party official said.
“Rahul Gandhi will attend the meeting that has been convened to decide the party’s candidates for the forthcoming elections (in 2012),” Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh told reporters here.
“Several issues related to election are likely to be taken up during the meeting in which the Congress general secretary may give some specific suggestions or instructions for improving the party’s performance in the state,” he added.
According to some party workers, Gandhi may also visit Kanpur and Fatehpur to meet the victims of Sunday’s Kalka Mail derailment.
Gandhi will return to Delhi Tuesday evening.
