Rahul Gandhi files nomination for Amethi

Rahul Gandhi Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh), April 4 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Saturday filed his nomination papers for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat. He was accompanied by his mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and close family friend Satish Sharma.
Rahul Gandhi filed four sets of nomination papers at the office of the returning officer Radhey Shyam at around 12.30 p.m.

Nobody was allowed inside the room, not even the National Security Guard (NSG) personnel. The Gandhis adhered strictly by the poll panel rules according to which not more than five people, including the candidate, can enter the returning officer’s room while filing nomination papers.

Rahul Gandhi spent about half an hour inside the room while filing his papers. His proposers are Congress MLAs of Rae Bareli and Amethi.

Earlier, the Gandhi scion drove in a cavalcade of five cars from Fursatganj, around 12 km away.

While Rahul Gandhi had arrived Friday night at Fursatganj and spent the night in Munshiganj, his mother arrived this morning.
