Rahul Gandhi, Congress’ farmer-politician (Political Prattle)

March 13th, 2009 - 7:36 pm ICT by IANS

New Delhi, March 13 (IANS) Never mind if Congress MP Rahul Gandhi holds an M Phil degree from Cambridge, he is actually a farmer! At least that’s the description of his profession on the Lok Sabha website.
The young and suave Congress general secretary has a degree in Development Economics from Trinity College, Cambridge University. Incidentally, the website misspells his profession as a “farmar”.

Young Congress MP Sachin Pilot also calls himself an agriculturist. It’s a different matter that he holds an MBA degree from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia!

Yet another young face of the party, Jitin Prasada, who is the minister of state for steel, describes himself as an agriculturist - if one is to go by the website. He holds an MBA degree.

Two faces of the same road

Though Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh live next to each other, there is a stark difference between the media presence outside their houses.

Both reside along the leafy Lodhi Road area. While Naqvi rarely makes news, Amar Singh is always sought after by reporters and always remains in the limelight, for one reason or another.

With elections around the corner, the hustle bustle outside Amar Singh’s house has dramatically increased, but hardly there is any activity outside Naqvi’s residence.

BJP takes a dig as Congress sings ‘Jai Ho’

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader couldn’t stop himself from taking a dig at the Congress for buying the rights of Oscar winning song “Jai Ho” from the film “Slumdog Millionaire” for its poll campaign.

The Congress’ fascination for “Jai Ho” is understandable, as it has been working all along at creating slums in the country, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal told reporters sarcastically.

Dhumal said: “The Congress has an agenda to create slums in the 60 years of its rule in the country.”

Himachal hoardings go Gandhi way - overnight

After the imposition of the model code of conduct, the Himachal Pradesh government seems to have suddenly turned to Gandhian ways.

It has replaced over 60 huge hoardings across the state highlighting the Bharatiya Janata Party government’s achievements with Mahatma Gandhi’s message on prohibition!

“Use of drugs dangerous to health; teetotaller families are blessed,” say prohibition messages on hoardings carrying a big sketch of Gandhi.
