Amethi, Sep 2 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi reached a police station in his Amethi parliamentary constituency and asked the policemen there to investigate a murder case properly and within a stipulated period of time, a party leader said Thursday.
“Rahulji late in the evening went to the Muzafirkhana police station after a woman, Sarfaraz Banu approached him and alleged that the police were not properly investigating the murder case of her sister Yaseen Bano, who was killed last July,” Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh told reporters.
“Sarfaraz also alleged that some police personnel had connived with the prime culprit of the case and were shielding him. Acting on the complaint by Sarfaraz, Rahulji quickly headed to the Muzafirkhana police station and questioned the cops about the case,” he added.
According to party officials, Sarfaraz repeatedly pleaded with Gandhi to get the investigating officer of the case changed.
“Rahulji asked a circle officer to get the case investigated in a proper way within one month. In response, the circle officer assured him that the investigation officer (a police inspector) will be changed and the enquiry would be handed over to another inspector,” said Singh.
Gandhi reached Amethi, his parliamentary constituency, Wednesday for a three-day visit. He left for New Delhi for a few hours Thursday to sign the nomination papers for the re-election of his mother Sonia Gandhi as the Congress president.
