Rahm EmanuelWashington, Oct 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) American politician Rahm Emanuel resigned as the Chief of Staff of President Barack Obama on Saturday and he was succeeded by the low-key Washington insider Pete Rouse. The Democratic political leader bid adieu to his job as the Chief of Staff of the Obama administration in a rather emotional send-off yesterday at the White House. Rahm Emanuel’s resignation was formally accepted by United States President Barack Obama as trusted advisor Pete Rouse was introduced as the new Chief of Staff.

The 50-year-old Democratic leader took the decision to quit his job at the Chief of Staff as he intends to run for the post of mayor of his hometown of Chicago. While making his farewell speech at the White House, Rahm Emanuel became highly emotional as he recalled the time that he had spent working in the Obama administration. The farewell ceremony also witnessed President Barack Obama applauding the Democratic leader for manner in which he has been able to handle his job while describing his departure as a “bittersweet” moment. Given the widespread media reports speculating that Rahm Emanuel’s resignation as the Chief of Staff, the United States president jokingly added that it was the ‘least suspenseful announcement of all time.’

After his official departure from the Obama administration, Rahm Emanuel is expected to head straight to Chicago to initiate his campaign for its mayor in the next polls which the Democratic leader has described as his dream job. However, analysts have noted that the change of guard in the Obama administration comes as a crucial time just ahead of the mid-term congressional polls to be held on November 2.
