Protestors stop trains in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, Dec 19 (IANS) Protestors agitating against the division of Andhra Pradesh Saturday stopped trains in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions, officials said.
The trains were halted in Kadapa district in Rayalaseema and Krishna district of coastal Andhra.

The all party Joint Action Committee (JAC) had given a call for ‘rail roko’ in Kadapa district.

At Koduru railway station, the Hyderabad-Tirupati Rayalaseema Express and Hyderabad-Chittoor Venkatadri Express were stopped.

The movement of trains was also affected at Muddanuru railway station as workers of various parties stopped the New Delhi-Trivandrum Swarna Jayanti Express. At Renigunta, protestors stopped a Chennai-Hyderabad train.

Congress workers led by Kadapa Mayor Ravindernath Reddy stopped trains at Rayachoti.

Raising slogans of ‘United Andhra’, protestors squatted on the tracks, causing severe inconvenience to the passengers. Police had a tough time in dispersing the protestors.

Activists of various parties also stopped some passenger trains at Vijayawada.
