New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) Progress details of the rural job guarantee scheme and other development schemes will soon be made available online to parliamentarians to ensure transparency and effective monitoring, Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said Tuesday. Singh informed the Lok Sabha that the progress details of schemes like the National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREG) and the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) were being made available on-line to the members of parliament (MPs).

In a written statement, Singh said that so far the progress reports of NREG, IAY and other schemes of the ministry had been sent through electronic mails (e-mail) to as many as 385 members, and urged the other members to give their e-mail addresses to his ministry.

The government in the 2008-09 budget has provided Rs.160 billion for rolling out the rural job scheme in all 596 rural districts. From April 2008, the scheme will be implemented in the remaining rural districts.

Singh said his ministry had developed a system for electronic transfer of monthly reports to the MPs on their e-mail Ids.

“I am happy to inform this house that the monthly progress reports of all programmes being implemented by the ministry are now available online for the information of the citizens of the country,” Singh said.

He said that 97 percent of financial resources was also being transferred electronically while all sanction orders and details of cheques and fund transfer were also being made available on its website.

His announcement drew applause not only from the treasury benches but also from Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who complimented his ministry for the initiative.
