New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday held countrywide protests against the Congress-led central government on the recent hike in prices of petroleum products and rising inflation.
“The protest against United Progressive Alliance on hike of prices of petrol and diesel besides rising inflation across the country ended successfully today (Thursday),” a party statement said here.
While party president Nitin Gadkari led the protest in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district, former BJP chief Rajnath Singh led the rallies in Orissa, the statement added.
Former union minister Murli Manohar Joshi took the charge of protest in Jharkhand, while newly appointed party women’s cell chief Smriti Irani addressed the rally in West Bengal.
Rallies, demonstrations and courting arrest were the part of the BJP’s protest, which was also organised in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and Rajasthan among others.
