Telangana Hyderabad, July 5 (IANS) Parliamentarians and legislators from Andhra Pradesh’s Telangana region, who have not yet submitted their resignations, are facing the ire of groups who are pressing for a separate state.

Describing them as “traitors”, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC), the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and other groups have stepped up pressure on MPs, ministers and legislators who have not yet resigned.

Union Petroleum Minister S. Jaipal Reddy is under pressure from his own party leaders to quit. Damodar Reddy, who resigned as member of the assembly Monday, has warned Jaipal Reddy that he would not be allowed to enter Telangana if he failed to resign.

Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) laid siege at Jaipal Reddy’s residence in Jubilee Hills here. Police arrested the protestors.

Jaipal Reddy is among the four Lok Sabha members from the region who have not yet submitted their resignations. The remaining 13 MPs including nine of Congress have already quit.

Protestors also laid siege at the residence of Malkajgiri MP Sarve Satyanarayana, who has refused to resign.

Congress legislator Marri Shashidhar Reddy had to face the ire of Telangana supporters, who blocked his convoy in Balkampet area here demanding his resignation.

There was also tension in Malkajgiri on the outskirts of Hyderabad as protesters laid siege to the house of Congress legislator Akula Rajender demanding that he resign.

Activists also protested before the home of TDP Rajya Sabha member Gundu Sudha Rani in Warangal, demanding her resignation.

They took out a mock funeral of a Congress legislator Kanta Rao in Khammam district.

The JAC, comprising students of Osmania University, have threatened to attack the houses of those who have not resigned. It has warned ministers from Hyderabad — Mukesh Goud and Danam Nagender — against any further delay in submitting their resignations.

The leaders also announced that they would take out a rally to the assembly July 7 to urge the speaker to accept all resignations.

Police have intensified security at the homes of Jaipal Reddy, Sarve Satyanarayana, another MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, Mukesh Goud, Nagender and Marri Sashidhar Reddy, all in and around Hyderabad.
