Jammu, Nov 26 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil concluded her three-day visit of Jammu and Kashmir Saturday, a day earlier than scheduled, with a visit to the famous Vaishno Devi shrine.
She was scheduled to leave on Sunday, official sources said, but did not give any reasons for the curtailed programme.
On Saturday, Patil paid obeisance at the famous Hindu shrine.
Governor N.N. Vohra, who is also the chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, accompanied her and briefed her about the activities of the board. She was at the shrine for more than one hour.
This is the silver jubilee year of the shrine board, which had come into existence in August 1986.
The shrine, in Reasi district of the Jammu region, attracts more than eight million pilgrims every year. The hill-top shrine is located at the height of 5,200 feet above sea level.
