President to attend Sainik School golden jubilee

Chandigarh, July 21 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil will visit Haryana Saturday to preside over the golden jubilee founder’s day celebrations of Sainik School (military school) at Kunjpura near Karnal, 170 km from here.
The school, which prepares young boys for a career in the defence forces through the National Defence Academy (NDA), was founded July 24, 1961.
A spokesman of the school near Karnal, 170 km from here, Wednesday said the institution enjoys the distinction of having Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and former army chief General Deepak Kapoor as its alumni.
Sainik School-Kunjpura, which has over 600 students on its rolls (classes 6 to 12), is one of the first five schools established by the Sainik Schools Society, New Delhi, in 1961. At present there are 25 such schools in different states.
