WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — President Barack Obama will speak at the Pentagon Memorial Service in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the White House announced on Wednesday.
The White House said Obama will deliver remarks and participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington. The event will begin at approximately 9.30 a.m. EDT.
On September 11, 2001, two hijacked airliners crashed into both towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Another airliner crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., while a fourth crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The council of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) eventually declared that the attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people from scores of countries, was considered an attack on all NATO nations.
The attacks, which eventually led to the collapse of both World Trade Center towers, were the deadliest terrorist attacks in history.
