WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen will meet President Obama in the White House in March, administration officials said on Friday.

Administration officials said the United States and Ireland share strong bilateral relations, deep cultural ties, and a commitment to positive change in the world. Obama said he appreciated the contributions and steadfast support of the Irish and U.K. Prime Ministers for their support of the transfer of powers from London to Belfast agreement made in Northern Ireland today.

President Obama said he looks forward to commemorating his second St. Patrick’s Day in the White House with Prime Minister Cowen, a celebration which serves as a reminder of the shared history and close kinship between the U.S. and Ireland.

In addition to the Prime Minister, Obama will also greet First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness of Northern Ireland at the White House on March 17.
