obama-back-to-school September 15, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): President Obama steered clear of controversy in this year’s ‘back to school’ speech which did not have any dramatic effect either. The entire text had been released before the event actually took place and did not resort to any brainwashing tactics.

He addressed the youth of America encouraging them to work hard. The parents of young children had been particularly worried last year by his speech. They thought that the President would be trying to manipulate them with the objective of furthering his own ends. However, his speech this year seemed to be focused on a much more realistic view which told the youth how to reach their goals and become successful.

He related to the children by recollecting parts of his own school days when he claimed to be inspired by his mother. He said that he had learnt to put in the requisite ‘effort’ and that is what that saw him through.

He also talked about how each kid needs to think big and aspire to be successful. He reiterated the fact that America would provide them with the opportunity of getting a good education but it was up to each of them to take advantage of its superb education system.

He reminded them that they held their future in their own hands and had the capability to make their own life. He said that nothing is really beyond their reach. And they only had to dream big and work hard apart from staying focused on their education.

The speech was on whitehouse.gov and the students paused their work across the nation in order to hear the President deliver his speech at 1PM, Tuesday.
