President Barack Obama’s Income Status Released By White House

Washington, Apr 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The White House reported the income status of the first couple of the USA on Thursday. As per the data given by the White House, President Barack Obama and his spouse Michelle Obama have earned an amount of $5.5 million last year. It is more than double of what the couple earned in 2008, in spite of the economic turmoil. From the statistics it is quite evident that President Barack Obama has left his predecessors at the White House far behind as far as the income status is concerned. President George W. Bush earned $936,111 and former President Bill Clinton got $417,467. These are the amounts both of the former presidents earned in their final years in the White House.
The First couple of the USA earned $5.5 million in 2009 and paid almost $1.8 million as income tax. The two fold increase in their income is mostly owing to the increased sale of the books written by President Barack Obama. The US President has written two books named ‘The Audacity of Hope’ and ‘Dreams From My Father’. They were sold in 2008 too but ever since he became the President of the USA that sales soared upwards. The White House also revealed that the President gave the money earned from Nobel Peace Prize worth $1.4 million to a number of charities.
The current salary of the US president is $400,000. It was just half of the amount till 2001. The main occupation of the US president as listed in his tax return statement is ‘author’. The first lady also donated to a few charities last year.
