President Barack Obama Shirtless on Washingtonian CoverApril 22nd, 2009 - 5:20 pm ICT by GD
The May issue of Washingtonian reused the infamous paparazzi shot of a shirtless Presient Barack Obama to prove that one of the reasons we “love living here: Our new neighbor is hot.”
The paparazzi had taken the photograph during the time Mr. Obama was on a holiday in Hawaii with his family last December, just before they officially moved into Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Washingtonian is a monthly entertainment and lifestyle magazine with a readership exceeding 400,000. Garrett Graff, its editor-at-large said they had thought of the cover at a staff meeting about the Obama’s arrival into Washington and the immense “celebrity aspect that has brought energy to the city and the attention of the paparazzi.” He said, “The Obamas are the center of attention here and the whole world is looking to Washington now in a way we haven’t seen in years. It’s a unique time in Washington and this photo helps capture all of the reasons why. It’s not a normal way to look at a president of the United States but this is not a normal president.” The White House has not yet voiced an opinion on the new cover of the Washingtonian.
In February 2007, when Mr. Obama was a Senator of Illinois, a similar beach photograph had caught media attention and Mr. Obama had said he was dismayed that his people are more concerned with his pectorals rather than his policies. He had told the media, “The problem is that that’s not what you guys have been reporting on. You’ve been reporting on how I look in a swimsuit.”
