Tucson, Jan 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A grief-stricken community as well as an entire nation which is still finding it hard to come to terms with the tragedy of the Arizona shooting rampage, found comfort in the words of its commander-in-chief President Barack Obama. The U.S. President attended a memorial service in Tucson, the city which was witness to one of its worst tragedies on Saturday when a gunman open fired at a meeting organized by U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords in which the Congresswoman was critically injured while six people were killed and many more sustained injuries.
While speaking at the memorial in Tucson on Wednesday night, President Barack Obama made an appeal to the citizens to unite while urging the country to honor the victims by becoming a better nation. In the speech which was interrupted at regular intervals by the crowds’ thundering applause, the U.S. President emphasized that right now it was the prefect moment for everyone to pause and ensure that we interact amongst ourselves “in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.” On the podium, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama were accompanied with intern Daniel Hernandez, who was one of the first one to come forward and help the injured Gabrielle Giffords following the attack. The first lady was seen wiping tears before hugging the hero of the moment, Daniel Hernandez.
Despite the fact that the heated political atmosphere of United States accompanied with the violent imagery during campaigns have been attributed to be some of the reasons for the Arizona shooting incident, the U.S. President reiterated that there was no way to conclude what actually pushed the gunman to carry out the attack.
