President Barack Obama Calls The Midterm Election Outcome ‘Shellacking’

1103_shellacking_full_380Washington, Nov 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) After the unexpected debacle of the democrats in the recently conducted US midterm elections, President Barack Obama appeared subdued and stressed on working with the opponent GOP for the betterment of the country and masses. He met the reporters on Wednesday a day after the results poured in. He tried to shift the focus from the setback suffered by his party to the challenge of boosting the economy and resolving critical issues like unemployment and spending. Saying that he felt humbled after the result the President said, “Because the most important contest we face is not the contest between Democrats and Republicans. In this century, the most important competition we face is between America and our economic competitors around the world.”

He used the word ‘Shellacking’ to describe the situation in the US political scene. He said that it was rather bad for him to see many incumbent Democrats losing their seats to GOP rivals. In fact the debacle led to the Democrats losing their majority in the House even though they did manage to edge ahead in the Senate. He also said that he was thinking if things could have been done differently. A day after the GOP gained the majority in the House and made inroads in the Senate The president said that he would think of co operating with the GOP on issues like Tax cuts as well as energy policies.

The White House news conference was attended by the leading media entities. The President said that he will talk with the congressional leaders from his party and the GOP to discuss tax cut issues.
