President arrives in Kolkata

Kolkata, Sep 21 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil arrived here Tuesday evening to lay the foundation stone of the Joka-BBD Bag metro project.
She was greeted by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and governor M.K. Narayanan at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport.
The president would lay the foundation stone at a programme to be held at Gurusaday Dutta sports, culture and education ground Wednesday morning.
She would fly to Aizwal Friday.
Meanwhile, the security arrangement in and around the city has been beefed up.
Kolkata Police Joint Commissioner Jawed Shamim said: “Additional security personnel have been deployed in the area where the programmes would be held. Adequate security arrangement has also been made at every important intersection and we are keeping a close vigil,” he said.
