Pranab’s nomination for presidential poll accepted
July 3rd, 2012 - 6:35 pm ICT by IANS New Delhi, July 3 (IANS) Former finance minister Pranab Mukherjee’s nomination for the presidential poll was accepted as valid Tuesday. He is the candidate of the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
“Pranab’s nomination has been accepted. The resignation from the Indian Statistical Institute was valid,” Mukherjee’s election agent Pawan Kumar Bansal, parliamentary affairs minister, told reporters.
The nomination of his competitor, P.A. Sangma, who is being backed by some opposition parties, including the BJP, AIADMK and the BJD, has also been accepted by the returning officer for the poll.
