Pranab Mukherjee Kolkata, March 15 (IANS) Congress stalwart Pranab Mukherjee and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee were meeting in Kolkata Tuesday evening to seal the fate of the alliance between the two parties for the upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal.

Both Mukherjee, who came here from New Delhi in the evening, and Banerjee are expected to address a joint press conference after their meeting.

The meeting between Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee was also being attended by West Bengal Pradesh Congress chief Manas Bhuniya.

Intense speculation has been witnessed in New Delhi and Kolkata over the last few weeks on whether the two parties will be able to clinch a deal.

However, since last Sunday both the Congress and the Trinamool seemed quite confidant of forging an alliance after a meeting between Trinamool leader Mukul Roy and Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmed and Bhuniya in New Delhi.
