Polls will give freedom to Tamil Nadu people: Jayalalithaa
April 6th, 2011 - 11:58 pm ICT by IANSCoimbatore (Tamil Nadu), April 6 (IANS) AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa Wednesday said the April 13 elections is to end the fascist rule in Tamil Nadu and to give freedom to the people of the state.
“The election is to end the fascist rule in Tamil Nadu. It is to give freedom for Tamil Nadu and its people,” she said, addressing a huge election rally in this textile city, around 500 km from Chennai.
This is the first time the AIADMK and its poll allies addressed an election rally from the same dais.
Leaders like Prakash Karat, general secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), A.B. Bardhan, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), N. Chandrababu Naidu, Telugu Desam Party chief, and others addressed the rally.
Jayalalithaa said: “The country is looking at Tamil Nadu and what its people are going to do to the corrupt rule.”
Listing out several unsolved crimes and the growing power deficit in the state, the former chief minister accused Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi of being inept in providing efficient governance.
Karunanidhi is good only at making his family flourish and not the state, she said.
Jayalalithaa said that many of the industries in Tamil Nadu - film, media, cable television and others - have been swallowed by the Karunanidhi family and that he wanted a sixth term to gobble up the remaining industries.
Referring to the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils, she said: “Karunanidhi did not threaten to withdraw support to the central government but staged a three-hour fasting drama.”
Jayalalithaa said that while the 2G spectrum scam was planned by Karunanidhi, his wives M.K. Dayalu and M.K. Rajathi, and daughter Kanimozhi, it is the Dalit A. Raja (former communications minister) who is in jail and the Muslim Sadiq Batcha who lost his life due to the scam.
