Poll panel to collect voters’ phone numbers
May 20th, 2011 - 3:32 pm ICT by IANSAgartala, May 20 (IANS) In a new plan, the Election Commission will collect the telephone numbers of all voters across the country to maintain contact with them, officials said here Friday.
“The poll panel has recently directed all the states’ election departments to collect the telephone numbers of all voters,” Tripura election department joint chief electoral officer P.R. Bhattacharjee told IANS.
“We have asked all the sub-divisional magistrates to start collecting the voters’ telephone numbers, both mobile and land phones, through booth level officers (BLO).”
However, the telephone numbers would not be printed in the voters’ list or in the electors’ photo identity cards (EPIC). It would be in the custody of the election commission.
“During election or any other occasion, the commission may contact voters by phone to enquire about certain matters,” Bhattacharjee said.
