Poll panel orders transfer of Tamil Nadu officials
March 20th, 2011 - 12:46 am ICT by IANSChennai, March 19 (IANS) The Election Commission Saturday ordered transfers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) officials in poll-bound Tamil Nadu.
According to an official from the chief electoral officer’s office, state Director General of Police Letika Saran will not look after work related to the April 13 election.
The election related police work will be looked after by Bholanath, assistant director general of police.
The AIADMK had represented to the Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi to bar Saran from election related work.
He said district collectors of Madurai, Vellore, Theni and Erode have also been transferred.
The election commission has also ordered transfer of Tamil Nadu (south) inspector general of police, Dindugal district deputy inspector general, commissioners of police of Madurai and Chennai Suburban and superintendents of police of Madurai and Thiruvanamallai districts.
