Hyderabad, May 19 (IANS) Ahead of the May 29 by-polls, the Election Commission of India Monday issued notice to another Andhra Pradesh minister for poll code violations as well as to a Congress legislator and some government officials. The commission issued notices to Minister for Rural Development G. Chinna Reddy, legislator S. Sudhakar and Congress party candidate for Hanamkonda Lok Sabha seat Konda Surekha.
The commission has also transferred Nizamabad Revenue Divisional Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police for allowing more people to accompany a candidate during filing of nomination for the Dichpally assembly constituency. Only five people are allowed to accompany the candidate to the office of the returning officer.
The model code of conduct is in force in 10 districts, where by-elections to four Lok Sabha and 18 assembly constituencies are scheduled to be held on May 29.
State chief electoral officer I.V. Subba Rao told newsmen here Monday that the commission issued notice to the minister for addressing a meeting in a school building in Mahabubnagar district. The minister reportedly held a meeting with district officials and also issued directions.
The commission issued notices to Mahabubnagar district collector and Superintendent of Police for allowing more vehicles than prescribed in the minister’s convoy.
Congress candidate for Hanamkonda assembly constituency Konda Surekha was also issued notice for holding a meeting without taking permission.
Chinna Reddy is the second state minister to get the poll panel’s notice. Earlier, Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy was issued notice for making some remarks against the commission.
The commission also issued notice to the state government for making certain announcements in violation of the model code of conduct. The chief secretary had to appear before the commission in person to tender an apology.
Earlier, the commission also transferred Ranga Reddy district collector Praveen Prakash on the ground that he was guilty of violating the code in the past.
