Noida, Feb 18 (IANS) Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan along with former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav Monday attended the funeral of Harish Chandra Singh, father of Amar Singh, general secretary of the Samajwadi Party. Om Prakash Chautala and Farooq Abdullah, former chief ministers of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir respectively, Sahara Group chairman Subrato Roy and several other media and political personalities were present when Singh lit his father’s pyre at a Noida crematorium.
Bachchan’s wife and MP Jaya Bachchan, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai and daughter Shweta Nanda were also present along with Tina Ambani, wife of industrialist Anil Ambani.
Harish Chandra, 82, breathed his last at Noida’s Fortis Hospital. Popularly known as ‘Babuji’ he was admitted to the hospital following a suspected kidney problem.
He was put on a ventilator after his blood pressure dipped Sunday night. “He died of kidney failure,” a hospital spokesman said.
Singh is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter - Amar Singh, Arvind Singh and Sudha Singh.
