PM reconstitutes National Security Advisory Board

New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday reconstituted the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), an important element of the national security council system, bringing in seven new members. Among the seven new members of the reconstituted 23-member board are its chairman K.S. Bajpai, a former secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and currently the chairman of the Delhi Policy Group, an independent think tank.
The other new members are Shyamala B. Cowsik, former high commissioner to Canada, Tarun Das, chief mentor of Confederation of Indian Industry, H.K. Dua, Editor-in-Chief, The Tribune, Prodipto Ghosh, former secretary, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Sudha Mahalingam, member (distribution), Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board, and Vice Admiral (Retd.) K.K. Nayyar, chairman, National Maritime Foundation.
The existing members are Alka Acharya of Jawaharlal Nehru University, N. Balakrishnan, associate director, Indian Institute of Science, P.M. Bhargava, former vice-chairman, National Knowledge Commission, Vice Admiral (Retd.) P.S. Das, Rakesh Datta, head, department of defence studies, Punjab University, A.S. Dulat, former secretary of Research & Analysis Wing, V.K. Grover, former secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Wasbir Hussain, political analyst and associate fellow, Institute for Conflict Management, Air Chief Marshal (Retd.) S. Krishnaswami, former chief of air staff, Rajiv Kumar, Director, Indian Council for Research in International Economic Relations, K. Raghunath, former foreign Secretary, K.V. Rajan, former ambassador to Nepal, N. Ravi, Editor, The Hindu, General (Retd.) V.N. Sharma, former chief of army staff, M.R. Srinivasan, former chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, S.P. Talukdar, former commissioner, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).
The NSAB is a multi-disciplinary body comprising persons of eminence from outside the government with the principal function of providing long-term prognosis and analysis to the National Security Council and recommending solutions and policy options to the issues raised by them.
