PM mourns death of Vayalar Ravi’s wife

New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS) Prime Minister Manomhan Singh Saturday mourned the death of Mercy Ravi, wife of union Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi.
Mercy, also a Congress leader from Kerala, died of kidney failure early Saturday at the Madras Medical Mission Hospital in Chennai. She was 63.
Describing her as an “active leader who worked for the welfare of the people”, the prime minister in his message to Vayalar Ravi said: “I was greatly saddened to learn of the passing away of your wife Mercy Ravi. May her soul rest in peace.”
“She was known for her literary contributions, which advocated the cause of women’s empowerment and raised issues of economic exploitation,” Manmohan Singh said.
