New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) The Trinamool Congress Monday rejected reports that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is unhappy with party leader and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and had asked her for a status report on the railways in a fortnight.
“There is no iota of truth in it,” said Trinamool Congress leader and MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, adding that the prime minister is “deeply satisfied” with Banerjee’s performance as railway minister.
“PM is deeply satisfied with her performance,” Bandyopadhyay told IANS on phone from Kolkata.
He said the minister was not responsible for the repeated rail accidents that occurred due to “human error”.
The past 40 days have seen six rail accidents out of which two were major.
Banerjee’s opponents have accused her of remaining absent from the ministry even at time when her presence is needed.
The Trinamool Congress chief, who spends most of her time in her home state West Bengal, is eyeing the 2011 assembly elections.
The Trinamool Congress is the second largest constituent in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
