PM assures Mamata help within constitutional limits

Mamata Banerjee Kolkata, Aug 21 (IANS) Congratulating West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her massive victory in the April-May assembly polls, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured her of all kinds of assistance within the constitutional periphery.

“The prime minister has assured Mamata Banerjee of all kind of help within constitutional limits. Our leader Banerjee has requested him to help the state government in restoring the glorious days under its first chief minister Bidhan Chandra Roy. The PM has assured that he will help the state,” union Minister of state for Urban Development and Trinamool Congress leader Sougata Roy told reporters her Sunday.

A 26 member Trinamool Congress delegation led by Banerjee Sunday met the prime minister and briefed him about the various affairs of the state including the precarious financial situation.

Roy, while briefing the media after the meeting, said that the PM has congratulated Banerjee on her magnificent victory in the just concluded election.

A Congress delegation led by state party president Pradip Bhattacharjee also met the prime minister and requested him to provide financial aid to the state.

“We have requested the PM to help the state financially as the state is on a verge of a financial collapse. We have also briefed him on the flood situation of the state,” state Fisheries Minister and Congress leader Abu Hena told IANS.
