Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 2 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived here Saturday night on a brief visit, during which he will inaugurate the 97th Indian Science Congress.
He was received at the airport by Kerala Governor R.S.Gavai, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi and several state ministers and Congress leaders.
The prime minister will Sunday morning inaugurate the Indian Science Congress to be held at the campus of the Kerala University.
Besides this, he has two other functions and will leave for New Delhi Sunday evening.
For the past two days, the city’s residents are having a tough time on account of one of the heaviest security covers seen in the state. The last time Manmohan Singh was here three years back, the local police goofed up by driving him the wrong way and this time, there were several trial runs to ensure all goes well.
Close to 1,000 police personnel have been posted on security duty.
