Pillai, top cop get Supreme Court notice on Ramdev
June 6th, 2011 - 12:40 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 6 (IANS) The Supreme Court Monday issued notices to union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai and Delhi Police chief B.K. Gupta asking them what were the circumstances under which yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his supporters were forcibly evicted.
A notice has also been issued to Delhi Chief Secretary P.K. Tripathi which has to be answered in two weeks.
An apex court bench of Justice B.S. Chauhan and Justice Swatantar Kumar took suo motu cognizance of the police action against yoga guru Baba Ramdev, referring to media reports.
Ramdev and thousands of his supporters who were at Delhi’s Ramlila ground were forcibly removed by police after Saturday midnight. Ramdev was airlifted to Dehradun from where he was taken to his ashram in Hardwar Sunday morning.
The court said the matter will be listed in the second week of July for hearing.
