PDP expels leader for indecent act against Omar
May 26th, 2010 - 8:29 pm ICT by IANSJammu, May 26 (IANS) The main opposition in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expelled one of its top leaders A.K. Sawhney for allegedly using “vulgar” language against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at a party rally last month.
Showing “zero tolerance” for dirty politics, the PDP Tuesday showed the door to Sawhney , one of its top leaders who had joined the party about two years ago. He, however, said he quit the PDP because of its anti-Jammu policies.
A press release of the party Wednesday said that an inquiry was instituted against Sawhney for his “indecent” act during a party rally April 26.
The release said that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has “expelled” A.K. Sawhney from the primary membership of the party.
“The inquiry committee has established that Sawhney was responsible for creating indecency during the rally by way of bringing a donkey and putting posters of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on it. Vulgar language against the chief minister was also written on those posters.”
However, Sawhney, on his part, maintained that he had “quit the party because of the anti-Jammu attitude of the PDP leadership.”
In a statement, he accused the party leadership of “working against the interests of Jammu region”.
“That’s why, I have decided to quit the party,” Sawhney’s statement read.
