New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) Home Minister Shivraj Patil will visit flood-affected areas in Orissa Tuesday to take stock of the situation even as Special Secretary (Internal Security) M.L. Kumawat will go to Karnataka to hold talks with the state government on recent attacks on churches.Patil will meet Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and discuss the floods in the Mahanadi that has claimed 29 lives.
“The home minister will undertake an aerial survey of the flood-hit districts including Puri, Cuttak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Jajpur,” ministry spokesman Onkar Kedia said here.
Minister of State for Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Sahu, secretary (border management), and other senior officers will accompany him.
Kedia said Patil had asked Kumawat to visit Karnataka Tuesday for discussion with the state government regarding the recent incidents ov violence.
“The home ministry officers will discuss the situation with the chief secretary and other senior officers of Karnataka in Bangalore. They will also visit Mangalore and Udupi where they will hold discussion with district officials,” Kedia said.
On Monday, Patil held a meeting with directors general of police (DGPs) of select states to discuss ways to strengthen the intelligence mechanism in the wake of the recent terror attacks.
The meeting was attended by the police chiefs of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Kerala. Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and Director of Intelligence Bureau P.C. Haldar also attended the meeting.
