New Delhi, June 4 (IANS) Home Minister Shivraj Patil Wednesday took a ride of Delhi Metro and inspected its impressive security and other arrangements. “The minister travelled from the Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate to Operations Control Centre at Shastri Park to Chandni Chowk and Rajiv Chowk metro station and saw the huge crowd which travels in the Metro everyday,” a ministry statement said.

Patil expressed satisfaction at the way security is handled in Delhi Metro.

About 650,000 passengers use the system every day.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) managing director E. Sreedharan, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director P.C. Halder; Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Director General R.K. Das accompanied Patil during the visit.

The Delhi Metro security is handled by the CISF and the law and order is looked after by Delhi Police.

DMRC has an enviable security record and has successfully prevented untoward incidents.

The DMRC model may be replicated in other metros and cities across the country.
