Agartala, Feb 17 (IANS) The budget session, beginning Feb 22, would discuss the report of parliamentary standing committee on women reservation bill, Parliamentary Affairs Minister V. Narayanasamy said here Wednesday.
The parliamentary panel headed by Jayanti Natarajan in its report to parliament in December last year held that reservation of 33 percent seats in parliament and state legislative assemblies was necessary to enhance the participation of women in decision-making process.
“After detailed discussion, parliament would now take the final decision on the reservation of seats for women,” said Narayanasamy, general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) who came to Tripura Tuesday to supervise the Congress’ organisational activities.
The minister said the session, which is likely to continue till May 7, would also discuss India-Pakistan talks related issues, price rise, increasing Maoist and other terror violence in a few states.
Regarding demands for separate states in different parts of the country, Narayanswami told reporters: “Only state reorganisation committee headed by union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee could consider the demand for a separate state.”
The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), a tribal based party, has demanded a separate state for tribals. The demand has been made keeping in mind the politically important election to the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTADC). Tribals constitute one-third of Tripura’s 3.8 million population.
